Something I hear quite often is that there aren’t enough lightweight cotton sundresses available for plus sizes. There are plenty of dresses made from poly blend fabrics, some of which are quite light and comfortable, but a nice cotton dress can be hard to come by.
Last week, I noticed that the Avenue had some cotton sundresses for the super affordable price of $23 each available online. The cut and style of the dresses are all the same and there’s a handful of different patterns to choose from. Being highly curious and also somewhat bored, I decided to trek to the closest Avenue location and see if they had them in-store. Luckily, they did! Here’s everything you need to know.
The cotton is super lightweight. Some might find it to be too thin, others will find it to be airy and comfortable. For $23, I think thin cotton is just fine, especially when it’s blazing hot outside. As for sizing, the 22/24 fit my 50” bust comfortably so the cut is true to Avenue’s size chart. There’s elastic at the empire waist and the skirt is full so go by your bust measurement for the best fit. The website has eight different patterns to choose from. You can see all of them here under sundresses. My favorites are Honey (pictured above) and Felicia.
I would absolutely recommend trying these dresses if you like the cut and the patterns that are available. I didn’t pick one up at the store because I really wanted Honey and they didn’t have my size. I will be ordering it online, though. If you decide to order online too, click here and receive $20 off a $100 purchase.

Thank you! These are so cute. I just ordered two in anticipation of a sweltering summer!
I hope they look as cute on as they do in the photos!

Thanks I really wanted a dress like this but like you said usually they don't make them in plus sizes.

I have two of these dresses, and I love them. I layered one with a cami and a short sleeve sweater from Old Navy, and it was really cute.

Just be careful - the color leaks. I bought a white one with an indigo print, and by the end of a hot day, the underarms were light blue and I had indigo stains on my skin. Came off with soap and water and a lot of scrubbing, but I don't know about the dress...might've been ok if I had washed it before wearing.
Fit was great though, and avoided the usual problems of light summer dresses not covering bra straps or letting the underarms be cut too deep and letting the bra show.

I tried these on in the store. I am a 14 or 16, wear a 36J bra, and even the 18/20 was way too small in the chest and huge everywhere else.

I ordered one online and had to return it; I'd recommend trying it on in the store. I had the same problem as busty--too tight across the chest and far too big everywhere else. If you have a smallish bust and want a sundress with a lot of volume though, give it a try! There really aren't enough cotton dresses out there for us.

Heather & busty - I should have taken bust size into account more. I'm not at all busty (relative to the rest of me) so I often forget that items that fit me in the chest might not fit a woman with a bigger chest. I do think the dress would be a nice fit for someone with a smaller chest, though.

Thanks for the head's up on these dresses, they are just what I've been looking for! I ordered several and chose to keep three; paired with a cardigan and nice sandals, it'll be a relief to wear something so light and airy to work this summer.
