Alright, I'm nosey.
With summer coming up, shorts are popping up at a lot of the plus size retailers, especially linen shorts. Personally, I haven't worn a pair of shorts since maybe middle school. I'd rather go for capris or a skirt. How about you?

I didn't vote because none of the answers really apply to me. I do wear shorts sometimes, but mostly on vacation or just around the house. On summer weekends in the city I tend to go for skirts or capris.

I just bought some that I loved. Can't find them online, now, but they're Calvin Klein and called something like "city shorts"

I have a SKORT from Junonia that is like bike shorts but with a skirt attached, which is the closest thing to shorts that I will wear. I prefer skirts.

OTM just likes the word SKORT.

Oh oh and I only wear the SKORT for athletic activities. That's how much I hate shorts - I don't even like wearing them at the gym or on the bike path.

I do wear shorts, generally just for very informal settings. I'll occasionally wear them to a daytime party or something if it's outside and likely to be very hot - although I have a skort for that purpose if it's not a family function where I'll be chasing nieces and nephews. But I prefer capris for events when the weather is cool enough or I'll be indoors. I rarely wear skirts outdoors in warm weather so as to avoid the discomfort of sweaty thighs rubbing.

Skirts or Capri's all the way...
I used to do shorts when I was around a size 14, but now that Im bigger, they just do nothing for me.

I should add that at size 22 (on the bottom) I don't find the shorts I wear particularly flattering, especially in the just-above-the-knee inner thigh. However, when society's dictate that I hide my fat conflicts too strongly with my comfort, comfort wins. If anyone's going to be that bothered by it, I'm happy to let them squirm! (And, dangit, I hate sweating.)

I love shorts! I never used to wear them because I hate my knees, but decided a year or two ago that I was being ridiculous and now I wear them at every opportunity- living in SW Florida, that means most of the time. I can't imagine only wearing skirts or capris- you all must be so hot!

Colleen,
I've totally been feeling the same way about shorts this season. I haven't worn shorts in public (or really even around the house) since I was 14 and i'm even scared away by the capri thing for fear of being the 24 year old who looks more like a chunky soccer mom. (i can't remember the last time i saw a young skinny girl wear a capri pant...and I live in the South.)However, in recent shopping excursions I've noticed there are aton of shorts and crapris that seem pretty harmless. I'm tempted by the bermuda but scared for the clunkiness of my calves. I dont think I could quite go to the above the knee variety...the inner thigh is not such a lovely place for me. Any thoughts on some cute (longer) shorts to try?

Ever since moving to FL (and that's been 18 years), I've been wearing shorts. I don't care what my legs look like, it's just too dang hot here! I only go for mid-thigh and bermudas though.

To be painfully honest, I actually like SKORTS over shorts, and CROPS over CAPRIS. Oh well, color me strange...

I actually have a few pairs of shorts and capris, but I rarely wear them. Not because of the fatness of my legs, but just because most days I can't be bothered to shave them. Oh well!
Never wear skirts of any sort, can't stand 'em.

I love shorts, but you really have to get the right length. Old Navy has a pair of dark denim bermuda shorts right now that look pretty damn cute, I think. I also like a more formal walking short and wear them with a pointy-toed slingback to the office. A nice alternative to trousers in the summer.

I have one pair of shorts that I wore on vacation last year and out of necessity. I wear capris, mostly, because of my thighs. I don't think shorts are really made for thighs like mine (i.e. not small and streamlined), so I'd much rather wear a dress, skirt, or capris/crops.

I voted "never"- I also prefer skirts, and will wear cropped pants under duress. I would consider trying on the longer shorts (bermudas, walking shorts) that are available now, but I doubt they will flatter my mighty hips and thighs.
However, I am intrigued by the plus-size linen shorts of which you speak, Colleen- can you post some links? I love linen.

I saw some plus-size girls wearing the bermudas and I thought they looked flattering so I figured I would try them out. I got a really cute pair, but the waist ended up being too tight and they were too uncomfortable to wear very long. :-(

No, I don't inflict my naked thighs upon the world. I have legs like tree stumps (thanks to my northern European peasant heritage).

I would wear shorts if I found ones that I like. For some reason I always feel very... butch... in shorts. I don't know why.
Since I've gotten my hair cut very short I tend to wear clothes that adjust the balance more toward "Miss, you dropped something." Instead of "Hey dude, you dropped this."

I like long shorts that don't ride up - I have several pair I got cheap last year before Old Navy decided to abandon its in-store plus sizes that are cargo and stretchy and totally my style. But I also have capris and skirts - it just depends on my mood (and the LA weather!)
