Following on the heels of How to Look Good Naked, the Lifetime movie Queen Sized premieres Saturday, January 12th. I know nothing about this movie other than that Nikki Blonsky stars in it (we love her) and what it says on the Lifetime website:
"Queen Sized" is the true story of an overweight teen who takes a stand against bullying when she's nominated for homecoming queen as a joke and decides to take a shot at the crown anyway.
Every Lifetime movie I've ever seen involves a teenage girl or young woman with an eating disorder of some sort, so this is a refreshing change of pace. I'm hoping it will be better than To Be Fat Like Me. I mean, at least they're using an actress who's actually fat, instead of stuffing a thin actress into a fat suit, right? Right??
I do wish Lifetime would make a choice, though. Are they trying to accept bodies of all sizes and portray them realistically and with compassion, or shame women into losing weight? I'm confused.
Either way, I don't see myself tuning in for this one. The plot sounds ok but Lifetime movies tend to be super sappy and I have zero patience for over the top sap. But if anyone watches it, leave a comment and let us know if it sucked!

I have my DVR set up to record this because I love over-the-top sap. lol I will report back after I view it.

How to Look Good Naked. I assume this is stuff of NIGHTMARES. Hey I lost my slim and trim years ago. I bet most people over 40 have (In US).
Of course if it's all Women, well there is more to it than the outside. It counts more what's inside.
Lots of SNOW here Today (7" or more). More fun running the snowblower until I broke it (Ordered part and Duck Tape saved the day for now).
Weatherman said the system is all going to Chicago.

Over the top sap can be just what the doctor ordered sometimes, and I can guarantee this will be just that. At least it looks better than that Oxygen originally movie where a woman pays a dude to marry her.

I was wondering what was up with Nikki Blonsky, I saw her video blip on the People's Choice Awards last night. (I felt so sorry for Queen Latifah having to try and pull that show off all by her lonesome...Queen looked fabulous, I just love her.) Anyway, I'm getting cable tomorrow! I've been without cable for 4 years. So I will be ever so excited to watch some over the top sap!

I heard briefly about this somewhere, thanks for the reminder. I've officially marked my calendar.
Your description made me think of the movie Angus which I watched recently. It has a boy in it who is being bullied because of his size and the nemesis gets him voted King of the Winter Ball as a gag. He decides to go through with it because it will be the only opportunity he has to dance with is crush. I quite enjoyed it so if you ever get the opportunity to watch it it is worth it.

I just finished watching Queen Sized. I thought it was a bit boring. It wasn't really too over the top sappy. Suprising for Lifetime. I did think that even though Lifetime was trying to put out a positive message of accept everybody, regardless of what they look like, they're shape, etc., I still felt that deep down they were still saying "But wouldn't you feel better about yourself if you lost a little weight?" Since that question, in more or less the same words, was thrown in the movie a few times. I also didn't like that every single time something bad happened to Nikki's character she turned to food. It's a take it or leave it movie, I give it a C.

I found it a little insulting and stereotypical that every time the main character got teased, she literally ran to her fridge, sank to the floor, and shoved ice cream in her face as fast as possible while sobbing. or unearthed a million packages of candy from various hiding places in her bedroom. Usually while listening to her subconscious berating her in her mother's voice. That is going to make people think that's we all do. Argh. It is possible to be a larger person without being crazy. You can even be fat and like to eat things other than ice cream and pizza. What a concept! :)
I also didn't like that she said she couldn't shop at the cool stores when she clearly wore an extremely cute lane bryant wardrobe. and had perfect skin and amazing hair. boo hoo. All in all, I thought this movie was pretty lame and had all of the typical high school movie stereotypes. Oh yeah, and the stereotype that you need an "ethnic" (movie land code for not all- american boy next door) man to accept fat women. He was perfectly nice, but when will the lead jock type fall in love with the big girl? It does happen in real life sometimes! D+

oh, and i did watch how to look good naked after the movie and really like that show! carson is pretty funny, and I liked some of the tactics they use to illustrate one's own body perception being inaccurate. my question is though, in the real live model lineup, how does the girl at the biggest end of the spectrum feel, when the makeover-ee gets to feel better about herself in comparison. maybe those women are just screened for the most fierce, self confident women in the world, who are not bothered by that! or they make a really nice paycheck...
