I have ordered a pair of Spanx Power Panties and am waiting for them to come. I have been putting off trying Spanx for a number of reasons, including:
- My apprehension towards anything surrounded by that much hype.
- You can't get them on sale or with a coupon or even a teensy bit cheaper anywhere and believe me, I've tried. This is compounded by me needing a size in the higher end of their plus sizes, which are only available from a few stores. I got mine from Lane Bryant but any coupon you use doesn't apply to Spanx, which pains me. I loathe paying full price.
- I pretty much always wear cottony, breathable underthings unless I have some reason to be fancied up, which is never. The idea of shoving my fat ass into a "shaping garment" does not appeal to me. But if the hype is true and they're breathable and comfy, then fine. I need something to protect my luscious thighs from chub rub* anyway.
Having said all that, I've heard very mixed opinions of Spanx and figured I'd just try them my damn self. If they suck, it's not the end of the world. I'm sure someone reading my blog is interested in them so we can all learn together.
I have three wants for these things - that they're at least somewhat comfortable, that they don't make that swishy noise when I walk, and that they don't ride up or otherwise migrate. If they do indeed provide "shaping," then that's a bonus. I'm very cynical about Spanx, obviously.
* If you search google for "chub rub," my blog comes up first. This is really exciting to me.
Update: Due to some shipping issue (not LB's fault) I won't be getting my Spanx for a few more days. I am glad to see that so many of you are interested in my thoughts about them, though. Stay tuned.

I am so glad you're trying Spanx. I've been wanting to try some for awhile now and have been put off, basically for the same reasons as you...I hate paying full price and I've searched the internet high and low and Spanx is the same price all across the board.

I love the Spanx. No seams, not much migration - if you buy the right one. Keeps it in, shapes it nicely.
Good luck!

I'm also interested in your experiment. Another concern of mine is thigh pinching which I get with control pantyhose. Very painful!

Thanks for taking the plunge! I, too, am curious about Spanx but I just can't bring myself to spend that much on undergarments!

I have a few weddings coming up and have been contemplating the Spanx. But I'm very scared of pain, no breathing in an area that needs to breathe, swishy noises, and everything else you mentioned. Can't wait to hear how they work out for you!

I jumped on the Spanx bandwagon about a year ago -- and didn't like 'em at all.
I'm a big fan of the -- urm, don't know what you call them -- basically they're lycra/spandex leggings that come in shorts length and capri length, in the lingerie dept. of Lane Bryant. Very thin, very stretchy, with grippy bottoms of the legs so they don't ride up. No swish. Comfy.
I actually bought mine a size up from what I am, so they're not too tight. They come in nude and black. I swear by them!!!!

You can get Spanx at Saks Off 5th for a discount. If you have one of their coupons, it's even better. Not all styles or sizes are available, but it's worth a try.
I've tried the original hose, and the Power Panties and have been very happy with both.

I had posted an excerpt of your opinion about Spanx on my site but have since removed it as you requested.
My apologies, I didn't intend to offend, I thought a lot of people would find your story interesting.
cheers,

I am really disappointed with the full nylons. They were horribly expensive, and I got a run even quicker than I have with the NoNonsense 'shaper' brand. The bra I like, but NEVER again on the hose....

I want something that won't roll down over my belly to give me an even bigger muffing top than I already have. I was hoping Spanx was the answer.
